The rain had stopped, but the garden was still dripping. Mila found a square of red paper. “Can we make a boat?” Gran folded. Mila pressed. Pip supervised.
They carried their boat to the biggest puddle on the path. “To the other side!” whispered Mila. Pip gave a little huff. The boat gave a little wobble. And off it went.
Halfway across, a leaf blocked the way. “Oh,” said Mila. Then she crouched down, rolled up one sleeve, and lifted it out. “Every explorer needs a helper,” said Gran. Today, the helper was Mila.
The boat reached the far shore. All three steps away. Mila smiled. Tomorrow, another ocean. The end.
